What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are titanium screw-like structures placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. These implants mimic natural tooth roots and, when combined with prosthetics, restore the natural appearance and function of teeth. Dental implants provide both aesthetic and functional solutions, improving chewing, speech, and overall oral health.

When is a Dental Implant Applied?

  • In cases of single or multiple tooth loss

  • In cases of total tooth loss (when all teeth are missing)

  • When fixed prosthetics are preferred

  • As a more secure and stable solution compared to removable prosthetics

Treatment Process

Implant Placement and Immediate Loading

  • Implant Placement: Titanium implants are placed into the jawbone, usually under local anesthesia. Traditionally, a healing period of 3 to 6 months is recommended for osseointegration (the fusion of the implant with the bone). However, in some cases, immediate loading can be performed.

  • Immediate Loading: Immediate loading involves placing a temporary prosthesis on the implant the same day or shortly after implant placement. This allows patients to have functional and aesthetic teeth during the healing period. While the implant continues to fuse with the jawbone, the patient can continue daily activities without aesthetic concerns. Immediate loading can be applied to patients who meet certain criteria, and it often yields successful results.

Treatment Options

  • Traditional Implant Loading: After implant placement, the healing process is awaited, and a permanent prosthesis is placed 3 to 6 months later.

  • Immediate Loading: A temporary prosthesis is placed on the day of implant placement or shortly afterward. This option allows suitable patients to immediately regain chewing and aesthetic functions.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Natural Look and Feel: Dental implants are the closest solution to natural teeth. They look and feel like real teeth in terms of both appearance and function.

  • Stable and Secure: Unlike removable prosthetics, dental implants are securely anchored to the jawbone and remain in place.

  • Jawbone Preservation: Tooth loss can lead to bone resorption in the jaw. Implants prevent bone loss by being anchored in the jaw, preserving its structure.

  • Immediate Loading: With the immediate loading option, patients don't have to wait through a healing period without teeth, allowing them to continue their daily activities without aesthetic concerns.

  • Long-Lasting Solution: With proper care, dental implants can last for many years, offering patients a permanent solution.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

  • Immediate Loading Option: In some cases, you can regain your teeth without waiting for the healing process.

  • Jawbone Health: Dental implants preserve the health and structure of your jawbone, preventing bone resorption.

Am I Suitable for Implant Treatment?

  • Implant treatment can be applied to almost everyone. However, before the procedure, the condition of the jawbone, overall health, and gum health are assessed. In cases of advanced bone loss, implant treatment can be performed with bone grafting.
